State rep. announces post-abortion proposal

BELLEVUE — An area state representative wants to limit what happens after an abortion.

During a new conference in Bellevue, Republican Andre Jacque announced he will introduce a bill to eliminate selling or experimenting with fetal body parts.
    
He says the law currently opens the door for abortion clinics to sell aborted fetuses for research.
    
Critics say the bill is an attempt to stop embryonic stem cell research.

“Something I think is abhorrent and certainly not necessary in this day and age. There are no experiments being done with aborted fetal body parts that could not be done with some ethically derived research material,” said State Rep. Andre Jacque, R-De Pere.

“So it's very very concerning and was opposed by a lot of researchers, a lot of people who do biomedical research, because of the ban on stem cell that would result in that bill,” said State Rep. Chris Taylor, D-Madison.

Jacque has plans for other legislation that include a choose life license plate, and tougher regulations on the state's three abortion clinics.
