GAB names Vocke chairman

MADISON (AP) — Retired judge Tim Vocke has been selected to serve as chairman of the nonpartisan board that oversees elections in Wisconsin.

Vocke's name was selected at random from a glass vase by board director Kevin Kennedy. He replaces David Deininger as chairman of the Government Accountability Board.

The board is comprised of six retired judges. Vocke is from Rhinelander and served as an assistant Racine County district attorney from 1973 to 1976 and was Vilas County circuit court judge from 1979 to 1983. Since then he has served as a reserve judge, medical malpractice mediator and referee for the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

He retired from practicing law in 2009.

The Government Accountability Board works with local election clerks on administering elections and investigating potential ethics violations.
