GOP looks for big wins in Ind., but spoiler lurks

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana Republicans hope to build on big wins they made in 2010 by winning races for president and governor, but the U.S. Senate seat the GOP has held for nearly four decades could be the spoiler on election night.

Presidential nominee Mitt Romney and Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Pence hold strong leads in polls and are favored to win. But tea party-backed state Treasurer Richard Mourdock's bid for the Senate seat held by Richard Lugar is in jeopardy after his comments that a pregnancy resulting from rape is "something God intended."

A Mourdock loss to Rep. Joe Donnelly would give struggling Democrats a rare foothold in this conservative Midwestern state.

Other races on the ballot include all nine congressional seats, 25 state Senate seats and all 100 state House seats.
