Gearing up for final night of DNC

GREEN BAY — “Obama for America” hosted 250 watch parties across the state Thursday, including one right here in Green Bay.

On the final night of the Democratic National Convention, Obama supporters say it's time to focus on November.

"I think there's a clear choice in terms of November and I happen to stand on the side of the middle class and everybody is in this together and let's work together," explained Obama Supporter Chuck Heidner.

Chuck Heidner was among more than a dozen other Obama supporters at a convention watch party in Green Bay.

They're ready for a second term.

"He inherited one heck of a big mess," Heidner said. "You go into an emergency room and the doctors say, the first thing you do is stop the bleeding and that takes awhile. I think we're at the point where the economy has stopped bleeding and we've gotten things starting to go in the right direction."

"It's pretty much the most important election in my lifetime and I think a lot of other people's lifetimes," explained Romney Campaign Volunteer Stephanie Soucek.

November 6th is also on the minds of Romney supporters, like first-time campaign volunteer Stephanie Soucek.

That's why she spent the night at the campaign's call center and not in front of the TV.

"I really just want to make a difference in this election," Soucek said. "I really disagree with the direction it’s going with the debt, and the economy and I just think Mitt Romney has what it takes to turn around and get things back on track for our country."

Polls show the race continues to be close here in Wisconsin.

It tightened slightly following the selection of Paul Ryan as Mitt Romney's running mate.

The latest Marquette Poll showed Obama leading Romney 49 to 46 percent.

At the national level, the race is a bit tighter among registered voters.

This week, the Gallup poll showed Obama ahead of Romney by just one percentage point.

There are still at least three more opportunities for the candidates to lay out their campaigns on the national stage.

The presidential debates are scheduled for next month.
