WASHINGTON — A Senate committee has approved funding for the construction of four littoral combat ships.
Two of them would be built by
Marinette Marine.
The
Senate Appropriations Committee okayed a bill Thursday which contains $1.7 dollars for the project.
The other two ships would be built by a company in Alabama.
The full Senate still needs to give the go-ahead.
This is part of a long-term plan for the Navy to purchase 55 littoral combat ships.
