Hovde: Tech company didn't get stimulus

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Correction: An article Monday incorrectly stated that Hovde Realty, which is run by U.S. Senate candidate Eric Hovde and his brother Steve, received more than $2.3 million in grants under the 2009 federal stimulus law. Hovde Realty did not receive any such grants. Hovde sits on the board of a separate company, ePlus, which did work for customers that received those grants.

The U.S. Senate campaign for Eric Hovde is taking exception to a published report that says a tech company backed by the Wisconsin Republican received $2.3 million in stimulus funds.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported last week that a government website that tracks stimulus spending shows ePlus as having received money from multiple stimulus grants. Hovde is a director for the computer-security firm.

Hovde's campaign says the website is wrong. Hovde says the company's customers may have received stimulus funds, but that ePlus never applied for nor received stimulus dollars.

Edward Pound is with the federal Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board. He says the recovery.gov website reflects information reported by stimulus recipients, not by the government.

EPlus spokesman Kley Parkhurst declined comment.
