Gov. signs "Lean Government" initiative

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker has signed an executive order calling on state agencies to look for ways to eliminate waste, save time, simplify operations and improve services to the public.

The "Lean Government" initiative Walker signed on Wednesday had been recommended by a task force he created shortly after taking office that looked at ways to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse.

Walker says the goal is to have continuous improvement across state government to provide services to people at the most affordable price.

The order calls on state agencies to define their mission and create measurement criteria for the services they perform. It also calls on them to identify improvements that can be made without changing the law.
