Ribble, Petri react to Holder decision

Here is reaction to the House approving a resolution to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in criminal contempt of Congress:

U.S. Rep. Reid Ribble (R-8th District):

"This is a sad day for our nation, but the Attorney General has repeatedly refused to provide key documents surrounding misleading statements given to Congress and he must be held accountable. Attorney General Holder had numerous opportunities to cooperate, yet he repeatedly ignored subpoenas for key documents to resolve how and why Congress was given misleading information. Innocent lives were lost in the government-directed program and there are still a lot of questions that need answers. The Attorney General's cooperation is necessary not only to ensure failed operations like this never happen again, but to also hold the rule of law in place so that the families who lost their loved ones can finally get the closure they need and deserve."

U.S. Rep. Tom Petri (R-6th District):

"The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms' 'Fast and Furious' program resulted in the flooding of Mexico, our neighbor to the south, with high powered weapons and in the death of a U.S. Border Patrol agent. Congress has a responsibility to oversee the Justice Department, and when we call on a federal agency to turn over documents, we have the right to receive them. When any part of the Administration fails to cooperate, it is appropriate to wonder what they are hiding and to take necessary measures to obtain the missing documents.

"Put simply, Attorney General Eric Holder is in contempt of Congress. He appears to be hiding something, and he needs to come clean."
