RACINE, Wis. (AP) — The first day's results are in from the recount in a state Senate race, and the early results show little difference.
Results were posted Thursday in the recall race between Republican state Sen. Van Wanggaard and Democratic challenger John Lehman. Wanggaard's current vote total hasn't changed, while Lehman has lost one vote in each of three precincts.
An official Racine County canvass showed Lehman leading Wanggaard by 834 votes, out of nearly 72,000 ballots cast. The four precincts counted Wednesday account for about 14 percent of the total votes.
The recount is expected to wrap up around the July 2 deadline.
Democrats have criticized the recount request as a waste of time and money. Republicans say voters deserve to know whether the ballots had been counted properly.
