Walker leads Barrett in new poll

Taking his neighbor to neighbor tour to Green Bay, Tom Barrett says he isn't concerned about trailing Governor Scott Walker in a new state poll.

“It shows that he has spent probably $25 million and he can't get his numbers above 50%,” said Barrett.

Marquette Law School polled 600 likely voters. 50% said they will likely vote for Governor Walker. 44% were for Barrett.

Two weeks ago, a similar Marquette poll showed a much closer contest. Walker led Barrett 48% to 47%.

“Any poll out there still has it relatively close and so we're going to keep pushing,” said Walker.

When it comes to one of the race's focal points, creating jobs, the poll shows that Walker has the edge. 48% of people polled said the governor would be better. 41% gave the edge to Barrett.

“He cannot defend his job record and he knows he can't defend it,” said Barrett.

“The mayor of Milwaukee and his campaign supporters will talk about anything except the raw data,” said Walker.

Barrett says he's not worried about the new Marquette numbers. He points to a poll taken before the primary showing he had a 17 percentage point lead over his top challenger, Kathleen Falk.
On election night, when voters had to make a choice, Barrett's margin was 24 percentage points.

“I'm looking at this thing thinking, ok, if you give me seven points, which is what I get above what they had projected what I was going to get, I'll be just fine,” said Barrett.

The new poll shows three percent of likely voters remain undecided. Its margin of error is 4%.

The general election is June 5.
