Barrett campaigning as Republicans meet

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Democratic candidate for governor Tom Barrett is campaigning in western Wisconsin as Republicans gather for their annual state convention in Green Bay.

Barrett planned to campaign Saturday in La Crosse, Osseo and Eau Claire.

The June 5 recall election pitting Barrett against Republican Gov. Scott Walker has been a central focus of the state GOP convention. State party chairman Brad Courtney told convention attendees Saturday that Republicans are in the "the political battle of our lives."

Courtney says a Walker win in the recall would provide momentum to help Mitt Romney carry Wisconsin in the presidential election in November.

State Sen. Alberta Darling urged everyone at the convention to organize and work to fight the recalls targeting Walker and five other Republicans.
