Woman to be tried for election fraud

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A former Oshkosh woman will stand trial on two counts of election fraud and two counts of falsifying nomination papers.

Forty-four-year-old Yadira Colon was bound over for trial Thursday in Milwaukee County.

She was charged after authorities began investigating allegations of irregularities on nomination papers filed during the 2008 election of then-Rep. Pedro Colon.

Pedro Colon was not charged. He is now a Milwaukee County judge and is not related to Yadira Colon.

The complaint alleges Yadira Colon forged signatures on nomination papers for Pedro Colon, and registered to vote under a Milwaukee address when she actually lived in Oshkosh. She voted via absentee ballot in Milwaukee for the 2008 primary.

A message left with Colon's attorney was not immediately returned. Court documents say she now lives in Florida.
