Lehman trails Wanggaard in fundraising

MADISON (AP) — The Democratic challenger vying to unseat state Sen. Van Wanggaard in an upcoming recall election will have to overcome a moderate cash disadvantage.

Former state Rep. John Lehman raised $104,000 between mid-January and last week. That's according to his campaign-disclosure report posted online Tuesday by the state elections agency. Lehman has about $94,000 in the bank.

Lehman had better fundraising numbers than did the three Democrats running in the other three Senate recall elections. But Lehman trails Wanggaard, the GOP incumbent from Racine.

Wanggaard raised about $157,000, and he has more than $191,000 in cash on hand.

Wanggaard and three other Republican state senators were targeted for recall for supporting a bill that restricted certain collective-bargaining rights.

Lehman faces a fake Democrat in a primary next week.
