Fitzgerald raises $230,000 for recall

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — State Sen. Scott Fitzgerald has raised about $230,000 in advance of an upcoming recall election. That's more than twice the total of his probable opponent.

Fitzgerald's campaign said Monday he has almost $430,000 cash on hand.

Fitzgerald is one of four GOP state senators facing recall for supporting a bill that restricted certain collective-bargaining rights.

He'll likely be opposed by Democratic candidate Lori Compas. The photographer from Fort Atkinson says she raised $100,000 and has $85,000 cash on hand.

The campaign-finance reporting period covers from mid-January through last week.

Compas will take on fake Democrat Gary Ellerman in a primary next week. The winner faces Fitzgerald on June 5.
