Gov. announces job creation at Mod Tech

SHAWANO — Republican Gov. Scott Walker stopped in Shawano Monday afternoon to announce job creation at Mod Tech Industries.

A few years ago, the company which makes parts for heavy industrial machines had to cut salaries and benefits because of the economic downturn.

Mod Tech has added 36 new jobs in the past year. It has also increased wages and benefits to pre-recession levels. In addition, employees there will receive a $1 an hour increase within the next 30 days.

During his stop, Governor Walker said thank you to the workers for supplying parts to other businesses and helping the state grow. Walker said Mod Tech reflects the turn around of Wisconsin's economy.

"We've said it is not the 1,000 or 500 at a time, it's the 25, 30, 40, 50 at a time that are going to make the difference with small businesses. We're trying to change the mind set, trying to change the business climate so it is easier to create more jobs here in the state of Wisconsin," said Walker.

The state Department of Workforce Development said earlier this month that Wisconsin has added 15,600 private sector jobs this year. The DWD also said the state lost 4,300 private sector jobs in March.

Gov. Walker has promised to create 250,000 new private sector positions by the end of his first term. He is currently not on pace to reach that mark.
