Vinehout turns in nomination signatures

MADISON (AP) — State Sen. Kathleen Vinehout has turned in nomination signatures to run in this spring's recall election against Republican Gov. Scott Walker.

Vinehout needed 2,000 signatures to get on the ballot. The maximum number she could collect was 4,000. The deadline for turning them into the Government Accountability Board was Tuesday.

Vinehout held a news conference outside Walker's Capitol office Tuesday morning. She held a box she said contained about 3,300 signatures.

Then she marched over to the board and handed them in. She told the receptionist she was bringing him something fun - a box full of hopes and dreams for a fresh start.

Vinehout is one of four Democrats vying to challenge Walker in the June 5 recall. A May 8 primary will winnow the field to one.
