Wisconsin Rapids elects young mayor

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin Rapids has elected a young, new mayor.

WAOW-TV reports that 24-year-old Zach Vruwink beat three other candidates Tuesday night. Despite the crowded field, he took more than 65 percent of the vote in a race that saw more than 45 percent voter turnout.

Vruwink discounts the importance of his age and says his experience as a business owner will help him lead the northern Wisconsin community. He's scheduled to take office later this month.
