Barrett attacks Walker, gets endorsed

MADISON (AP) — Three Democrats who were either considering running for governor or frequently mentioned as candidates in a recall election against Republican Gov. Scott Walker have announced they are backing Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.

Barrett lashed out at Walker during a news conference Wednesday announcing the support of U.S. Rep. Ron Kind and state Sens. Tim Cullen and Jon Erpenbach.

Barrett says Walker unleashed a civil war in Wisconsin with his proposal last year effectively ending collective bargaining rights for most public workers. Barrett also says he's the best candidate to unite the state.

Barrett announced his candidacy on Friday. Three other Democrats are also running.

Barrett says the biggest mistake Democrats could make is attacking one another.
