MADISON, Wis. (AP) — At least 227 military and overseas voters who want to cast absentee ballots in Wisconsin's April 3 presidential primary will have additional time to get their votes counted under an agreement entered into with federal officials.
State elections officials said Friday they entered into a federal consent decree to extend the deadlines. The extension comes after the Government Accountability Board determined that clerks in at least 65 municipalities did not send out requested ballots to overseas voters by the Feb. 18 deadline.
Voters still must have their finished ballot postmarked by the day of the primary. However, instead of it having to be received by April 6, the completed ballot can come in as many days late as it was sent.
