Fitzgerald on the issues:
Jeff Fitzgerald is the Republican speaker of the Wisconsin State Assembly. As Speaker, Fitzgerald is known for ushering much-needed pension and benefit reforms that have saved millions of taxpayer dollars and thousands of jobs through the Wisconsin Legislature, championing fiscally conservative policies to balance a $3.6 billion budget deficit without raising taxes, and advancing a broad, pro-growth agenda that includes regulatory relief, tort reform and tax cuts that have placed Wisconsin on a path toward economic recovery and prosperity.
During the previous legislative session, Fitzgerald was elected Assembly Republican Leader by his peers at a time when Democrats occupied the governor’s mansion and controlled both houses of the Wisconsin Legislature. Fitzgerald demonstrated his leadership skills and strong political acumen two years later by winning a 60-seat Republican majority in the Wisconsin Assembly through an effort that claimed 14 incumbent Democrat seats while successfully defending all incumbent Republicans.
Prior to entering public service, Fitzgerald owned and operated two small businesses and spent eight years working at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Fitzgerald graduated from University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, obtaining a B.S. in Journalism after transferring from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay where he played basketball.
Fitzgerald lives in Horicon, Wisconsin with his wife Andrea and their two children, Jack and Lauren. He is a member of the Sacred Heart Parish Catholic Church in Horicon.
